Cigale: Moire and Moire

This is one of my absolute fave dresses by Dior. Second only to Junon, this is a dress that I've always wanted to make. Similar to Junon, I also made designs in college that were inspired by this dress but never a full recreation. This is what makes this huge project exciting, working on dresses that I've always been inspired by. I Just can't get over the engineering of this dress and the way it falls.

It is great that in researching this dress it has tons of pictures to choose from. It was obvious the fabric is a light gray moire which is very fun for me to work with. However, I had trouble finding gray moire at first but finally found some on Mood. I'm just working on which will have the strength for the construction of this dress. I was able to find several images of in process of this design. There was a draping picture and I also found a picture from a designer who had made the dress for school. She was working on a quilt square and he project showed the ideal configuration for the pattern for this dress.

There is a self neckline and self belt which are design details that are added on top of the fact that this look uses an underarm gusset. The seams are on display with this piece that they need to fall and fold perfectly. Lastly, the underpinnings of this dress will be crucial to the fullness of the skirt but particularly in the front for the fold in the center front.
